ahh.. i tend not to look at the chap huey tiam things as i don't like squeezing into them..

but i like the "medical halls" near my office..

i get stuff like hair gel for $7.50 which in supermarkets go for $10.90, neutrogena facial wash for $7.50 which go for $11.90 in Giant, shampoo for $23.50 when in most places go for nearly $30...

they sell other crap too.. like honey which goes for about $4 which same brand at supermarket goes for $6

don't know how they get these prices, even when they are parallel imports..

issue of margin. Dun forget, NTUC also has to ensure their housebrand has to be significantly cheaper. "Rice is rice, bread is bread" remember?

Pfizer or whatever the heck you spell it, the guys who make Viagra, just got hammered with a US$2.3billion settlement... for marketing drugs for illnesses which they were not made for, and not approved for by FDA...

now... if they were willing to settle for US$2.3billion, imagine the sheer amount of shit they did and how much they were trying to avoid!

and in the same breath by the BBC World Service newsreader, they mentioned the super fail by the SEC of the US in the Madoff case.. 5 separate investigations, 2 of which was carried out at the same time and the agents didn't have a clue... all the investigations were basically "they went to ask Madoff and accepted his bullshit answers".. then they wrote down the bullshit, said that all was in order and submitted the findings!

now... if they were willing to settle for US$2.3billion, imagine the sheer amount of shit they did and how much they were trying to avoid!

and on defence procurement matters, many senior officers in the pentagon get under the table deals with vendors to secure second careers as consultants or whatnot. which is pretty much how soldiers can sometimes end up with some really substandard equipment. haiz.

Easy profit made n I wonder how e occifers source for vendors

funny you should say that..

while the US army has outlawed the use of Dragonskin, Richard Mac on Futureweapons was showing off how good that was... it took rounds from all kinds of assault rifles going for it without penetration at all.. it even took a lot of the kinetic energy away so the soldier would not be winded and can run off and take cover...

then they put the damned thing over a grenade.. the blast wave would have killed the soldier but there was no penetration...

now.. why would the US army pay more for their substandard body armour when there is a vastly superior one out there?
